Lunacy Brewing Co. in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, is closing on Sept. 16, 2023. Its owners cited state restrictions that craft brewers abilities to host special events and sell food, as well as pandemic-related financial difficulties. Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to conditionally veto a bill that would roll back restrictions in hopes of having his liquor license plan inserted into the legislation.
New Jersey officials including Gov. Phil Murphy have proposed ways to amend a law governing liquor licenses that was first written in the years following the end of Prohibition in the United States. The law, which limits each town to one license per 3,000 residents, has not been changed since 1969.
