The Bombay High Court urged the BMC to provide ad-hoc compensation to the family of two children who accidentally drowned in a poorly covered water tank in a public garden in Mumbai.
The High Court initiated a suo motu PIL to examine the lack of accountability and mechanism for compensation for deaths due to negligence of civic bodies.
An FIR under Indian Penal Code Section 304A (causing death by negligence) has been registered against the accused at the Vikaspuri police station, said DCP (West) Vichitra Veer, adding: "Efforts are on to identify the deceased, and further investigation is underway."
