joining me, david kirby, author of death at sea world. thanks so much for joining. one of our colleagues did a report on nightly news on sea world and it showed empty seats and that this is the reason the change was needed for sea world. people weren t showing up anymore. public opinion is changing. the fact that sea world is making this move, i covered sea world for a number of years. this is probably the most important step they have taken in response to public opinion but it s just a baby step. a tank is still a tank. it doesn t matter if you are in a small county jail or federal penitentiary, you are still a prisoner. the public sees through that. a lot of people are pointing to the documentary black fish. some of the same things in the documentary are things you reported on for a very long time. it wasn t one documentary. it seemed more of a wave of information coming from all sides, whether it s a movie like free willy that had nothing to do with sea world to your act

at places like sea world as a result of these attacks? well, government has stepped in and osha issued a fine and violation against sea world. sea world has removed its trainers from the water. they now stand on the edge of the stage. sea world would like to get the trainers back in the water. frankly, the show is much more exciting when there is that interaction but the federal government believes it s simply unsafe because even if a whale goes off behavior less than 1% of the time, it s those times where the danger is most present. these are large predators and like carol said, when they decide they re going to do what they re going to do, they do it. they have their own opinions about things and it s very hard to bring them back under control sometimes. sure, of course. fortunately, ken peters as we see did a remarkable job bringing this whale back down. and survived. the book is called death at sea world . carol ray, you were the former trainer at sea world. thanks so much
