Irish Rep Announces THE ARAN ISLANDS: A Performance on Screen

Irish Repertory Theatre announced today that their next Performance on Screen digital production is The Aran Islands by J.M. Synge and adapted and directed by Joe O Byrne. Starring Brendan Conroy, the virtual production of The Aran Islands will premiere on Tuesday March 16, 2021 at 7pm ET and run through Sunday March 28, 2021. For more information and to register for a performance visit IrishRep.org. In the grey, sea-battered landscape of the Aran Islands, full of mist and wild rain, hearth is home and storytellers regale with tales by the fire. When John Millington Synge traveled to these remote islands upon the advice of W.B. Yeats in 1898, he discovered a bleakly primitive, mystical land that would inspire him for the rest of his life, leading to canonical works in Irish theatre, including The Playboy of the Western World and Riders to the Sea.

Wild Mountain Thyme DVD Review • Home Theater Forum

Outside Mullingar, writer-director John Patrick Shanley’s Wild Mountain Thyme is a film that was, perhaps, misunderstood by critics during its initial release just two months ago, much like his earlier film Joe vs the Volcano (a personal favorite of mine). When Tony tries to have his wealthy American nephew Adam (Jon Hamm) take an interest in purchasing the farm from him, Anthony tries to muster up the courage to propose to Rosemary, but in doing so misplaces his mother’s wedding ring. Thus begins the dance and love triangle (of sorts) between these three as Anthony spends most of his time trying to find the ring in his fi

Delighting on Bluray is WILD MOUNTAIN THYME

Reply Coming from director writer/director John Patrick Shanley and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment comes the story of life and land in WILD MOUNTAIN THYME. Tony (Christopher Walken) has lived his life on a beautiful plot of land in Ireland with his son Anthony (Jamie Dornan). In the land next to them is Aoife (Dearbhla Molloy) and daughter Rosemary (Emily Blunt) who keeps her heart out for Anthony. When Anthony learns that his father might be selling the land to him, he is devastated. He also learns that nephew Adam (Jon Hamm) from America is coming for Tony s birthday and that is who is considered front runner for the land. There is also a piece of land between Tony and Aoife that belongs to Rosemary!
