Arrest made after student finds gun at Thibodaux elementary school
A 27-year-old Thibodaux man was arrested on multiple charges after a student found a loaded handgun at C.M. Washington Elementary School earlier this month, police said.
Deanthony Johnson is charged with flight from an officer and possession of a firearm on school property, the Thibodaux Police Department said.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff s Office, a Glock 23 gun was found by students around 11:45 a.m. April 12 in the grass near the edge of the school at 200 Iris St.
Officials believe the weapon had been there for several days and there was no threat to the school. The school had just reopened after being closed for 10 days for spring break.
