One week after some members of the City Council questioned the outside legal fees paid for the tax valuation case that took place for several years between the City and Exelon Power Plant, members of several City Departments said the expenditures since 2017 are not out of the ordinary. There is a need often to get attorneys specializing in unique areas of the law as many surrounding community cities have done, said City Solicitor Colleen Mejia. She also said that the notion that her department doesn’t work or farms out all of the legal issues is not correct.
“It is absolutely not true that we’re farming out all the legal work,” she said. “We work all day every day – as well as nights and week-ends. Virtually every department head in the City calls us at night and on weekends. This isn’t a 9 to 5 job. We use outside legal services to supplement and help us resolve issues we need help with. We don’t know all the aspects of the law and sometimes legal research doesn’t
Not one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine went to waste last weekend at the second City of Everett and Cataldo Ambulance vaccination clinic in the former Pope John High School.
The effort was able to vaccinate 386 seniors that were 75 and over, as well as the new categories of those 65 and over, having two co-morbidities or are living in senior congregate homes.
“On Saturday we had another successful COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Pope John,” said the mayor. “The Everett Board of Health successfully vaccinated 386 eligible individuals with the assistance of Cataldo…We have another clinic scheduled for this Saturday Feb 27. These appointments are all booked, but we may be opening up additional spots.
When the state handed out disappointing news for vaccinating teachers, Everett turned that news into a major victory and movement toward getting immunity to COVID-19 for senior citizens in the community.

Woe unto thee for 2021 when it comes to the Everett City Council trying to have a successful meeting, as technical issues bombarded the board once again and they plowed on without the public being fully able to observe the meeting.
Technical issues have been a hallmark of the Everett Council like no other board or Council anywhere else since COVID-19 started, and though it seemed they had gotten to the other side of the troubles, Monday night’s meeting suddenly fizzled out again as it had previously many times last summer and fall.
