file the paper that make these points and others including the witnesses they want. let me get margaret in but i think those are interesting points. yeah. ari, mcconnell says that pelosi has no leverage. mcconnell handed pelosi leverage by being so outspoken, brazen, about how he was going to treat the trial. he proudly said he was coordinating with the defendant and his lawyers. and that s against the oath he s going to take which is to be an impartial juror. and then lindsey graham chimed in and we ve had almost a continuous loop of quotes of senators that were around for the clinton impeachment when there was agreement on the rules, there was agreement on witnesses, and they were all in favor of that. and now they re not. so, it s totally political in that sense as john just pointed out. it never made sense for pelosi
you said something tonight about gridlock is mitch mcconnell. look, first of all there s structural problems with congress now that the vice president didn t deal with. citizens united, the inju gerrymandering stuff we got today and the attacks on voting rights. when there were bipartisan deals cut they were mcconnell taking everything i ve said before mcconnell is immune to give-and-take unless he s taking everything. and on that deal mcconnell took everything and he stole the democrats economic argument for it last presidential election. we had run against the bush tax cuts. that deal had made the bush tax cuts, almost all of them permanent. we had run against the sequester that was going to be so ugly congress would never pass it. that deal made it the law of the land. and on top of that we ve had the
activists believe they caved and that s a risk for democrats because what they want into 2018 is a sense that from their base they are going to stand up to trump and when they are voting for democrats will make a difference in the way the country is run. for a lot of people today particularly those on the immigration issue. they won t be feeling that way. do you think that we ll have any clarity on daca by february 8? that s a deadline. it there anything the dreamers can hang their hats on? i don t think there s anything to hang their hat on. the deal mcconnell gave democrats doesn t stay with the nature of a daca bill that would be brought would be. there s nothing they got out of this. why was president on the sideline during this week during negotiations? didn t leave, supposed to go, why was he so quiet?
feinstein told us today s vote ending the shutdown and the lack of resolution on the dreamers is one of the most crushing things that has happened to me in the senate, because we got such strong public support. did senate democrats cave? well, i think it s a matter of opinion as to whether they caved. i think it s very clear that immigration activists believe that they caved. and that s a risk for democrats because what they want going into 2018 is a sense that, from their base that they re really going to stand up to trump, that when they re voting for democrats those democrats are going to make a difference in the way that the country is run. i think for a lot of people today, particularly those aligned on the immigration issue, they re not going to be feeling that way. so do you think, then, that we ll have any clarity on daca by february 8th? because that s the deadline. anything the d.r.e.a.m.ers can hang their hats on or count on right now? i don t think there s anything
