That giant tree behind me. Its a trin to the one that fell and while we desperately need the rain, todays storm also brought some destruction. Im very sad. Reporter during the rain storm, this giant chinese elm toppled in San Franciscos castro neighborhood, taking out power and gas lines on its way down. Homeowner Neil Rosenbaum said work exposed extra soil near the tree base. My hunch, this heavy rain washed down the street, oversaturated the soil and the roots couldnt hold it. We have Team Coverage of the storm with janine de la vega who has been out in the wet weather all morning. We begin with Steve Paulson tracking the rain and even more thunderstorms possible, hail on the way. Absolute little. Its been a rather busy morning. It will continue to get busier here in the afternoon. A line is forming along the san mateo coast. I will get a closer look at it. Half moon bay. Lets take a trip around. It let up around hercules, crockett, pin noel, rodeo, thunder and lightning in benicia. And just coming over san pablo bay, maybe a little bit of hail. General rain out to the east bay, approaching. South San Francisco heading to oakland and hayward, probably on the san mateo ridge and near Half Moon Bay. Thats the biggest activity right now. Fallen on it. Reporter this tree between 1 00 and 1 30 this afternoon. I heard a loud explosion and saw wood chips scattering and i thought the lightning had hit our house. All of a sudden theres a huge bright light like the sun, huge crack, loudest noise ive ever heard. Reporter that many said was a landmark here and once stood tall. It was about 8 foot tall. And now its about 20 feet tall. Reporter investigators say parts of the tree ripped through the roofs of several homes, left debris in several yards and took out windows in a threeblock radius. Weve seen treeing taken down by storms, but a Lightning Strike thats actually detonated a tree like this ive personally not seen before. Reporter you can see there are tarps on top of that home. The Fire Department put those up to prevent any further damage. Nobody was injured. Well talk to more people in this community who were affected by that tree strike. People in sausalito were also startled by a Lightning Strike this afternoon. Folks

Al jazeera obtained a document outlining the key points. A ceasefire in 2012 is aimed at providing a sustainable solution. It ensures the livelihoods of the palestinians. It also offers a 7day pause in violence so israel can pull out its troops and allow food and medicine in. That is a longterm side. The hope was to stop the fighting for address.
