there is also a simulated attack on new york city which the police commissioner said we are ready, we are prepared to go about your business and do not be frightened. we have certainly noticed, we are a block from time square, added personnel from the counter-terrorism unit of the new york police department. it s not just the white house, new york city. elsewhere, this morning in mali, western africa, a hostage situation still going on. martha: we have special forces in the area. we are working to done firm that. we do know there are americans who are in the hotel. not sure if they are on the 7th floor where there appears to be a barricaded area. we are getting bits and pieces of information throughout the hour this morning. but the americans are of great concern to our own military.
terror groups, there are a lot of them, not just isis and al qaeda, are competing with each other, is this now suddenly trigger a serious of continuous an chronic terrorist attacks? what does that mean for american citizens? gregg, what really this is doing, it is making more vivid what we ve known for quite a while. we ve had al qaeda in arabian peninsula. al qaeda in the islamic maghreb. boko haram,al that bob and isis and affiliates join up. they compete with each other. sometimes they cooperate with each other. they have transient alliances. this makes much more difficult back on september 11th, when it was one group in caves in afghanistan. gregg: switching to our other subject which we initially invited you, we have this isis videotape threatening an attack on the white house. it came 24 hours after a simulated video attack on new york city. how serious do you take this?

al qaeda has to make a mark, when they see a major attack like what you see in paris, al qaeda has to come on the scene saying we re alive and still as good at killing infidels. they want to draw a contrast and say we released muslims that we held. isis just massacres them left and right. gregg: so in other words those that can cite koran are released? right. al qaeda wants to brag about that to use that to contrast themselves with isis even though al qaeda has a history of killing muslims left and right, their pitch is they are kinder to muslims whereas isis is reckless. martha: very interesting and from your line of work, ryan, this is a very itch moment to figure out who is leading. when you think about boko haram. pledging allegiance to isis, that had to sort of tick off the al key folks i would imagine, and as you point out they re feeling very competitive at this moment. right. switch of allegiance from
