years and every election a moment saying, you know what? i don t see how anybody gets a majority. here comes the brokered convention, the deadlock convention. the thing to keep in mind is that the modern process of selecting presidential candidates which involves every state having a primary and caucus, that has almost completely eliminated the possibility of a deadlocked convention. in the old days, they didn t have primaries and caucuses. you had party bosses to show up with delegates. nobody knew. 46 ballots and then woodrow wilson was president and different now and donald trump is a wild card and we re seeing in the polls commands 20%, 30%, 35% maybe of the support f. that support stays with him no matter what, maybe nobody can get the jrt. if donald trump and ben carson decide to run as third party candidates, when s the thing? ben carson, report of republican leaders talked about a brokered convention and he s
i frankly predict he ll end up with 1320, 1350 which would be 200 more than he needs. i know he got most of the conservative vote possibly for the first time and he also gained on married women on rick santorum in the midwest. tea party. and the tea party as well. but does the voter turnout down 24% despite the biggest, most significant illinois primary since 1988 disturb you? well, i think that a lot of the people who would have turned out to vote for santorum or gingrich stayed home because they felt that they did not want to prolong this nominating battle and it was one thing to vote for a candidate who is not their first choice but was able to come out essentially and vote for a deadlock convention. anybody voting for santorum is to have this nomination stay open until the convention and i think they probably agree with me this would be a disaster and might re-elect obama. so i think it s fully understandable they stay home.
alternatives, either we grind it out and i think we will and get to the necessary total or the convention will be deadlocked which does not benefit anybody but barack obama. well, deadlocked convention will result in a nominee and it may not be mitt romney and could damage the party or not damage the party. what do you do about rick santorum? he has all the momentum now, what do you do about the fact he has been out spent and out gunned and out run by mitt romney and still pmanages to coe out with big victories? and out voted by mitt romney too. we have twice the popular votes, twice the delegates. we have won more states than john mccain won, we are doing well. that is why we are headed to the nomination. so, i expect us to continue doing it. now the alternative again, and speaker gingrich s campaign said this today, their strategy is to create a deadlock convention, means that barack obama has the summer off and republicans are
