receive around the clock security as the department of homeland security warns of murder threats escalating. welcome to our viewers in the united states and all around the world. it is thursday, may 19th. and shortly, the 18-year-old suspect in the racist attack on a buffalo supermarket is due to appear in court after pleading not guilty to first degree murder. we re also learning this morning that a 911 dispatcher has been placed on administrative leave for what officials describe as a, quote, completely inappropriate response to a whispering caller during the mass shooting that left ten people dead. we re hearing stories from those who survived the massacre, including one hero who risked his life to save co-workers and customers. he spoke with cnn s shimon prokupecz. shimon joins us live from buffalo. it is an incredibly moving story, shimon. reporter: it is. what a remarkable man, jerome bridges, he works at the store, describing to us and really just great detail, a
platform, visited the country s largest pediatric hospital in kyiv where he met with children and their parent. he spoke later about the young ukrainians that he met. it was also heartwarming to see their resilience and like the resilience i think that all the ukrainian people are demonstrating in this horrific war, but also, you know, like i said, just very, very sad to see. it s just hard to understand, you know, how russia could attack this country and knowingly attack and kill and wound and maim children. it was really horrific. kelly also visited a city devastated by heavy shelling earlier this year. ukrainian officials are reporting more russian shelling overnight south of the city of de dnipro after officials on sunday said at least seven people were killed and 19 injured in attacks.
that blew up the electoral center for the so-called referendum in kherson. that s a city, the only regional city that has fallen to russian hands in the whole of this more than six-month campaign now. during a counteroffensive to recapture that city. and as you say, you have seen this latest rocket strikes against that very important bridge. that is the main supply route for the russians on the other side, effectively on the side i m on here, this side of the river. de dnipro to support the forces in kherson and beyond. very important strategic site. it s been attacks several times in the past. mainly the russians are now having to rely on barges to resupply their troops. the ukrainian hope is they ll be able to capture more and more villages and press tighter and tighter in against kherson. today, officials, military officials in the south behind this southern counteroffensive are saying to the citizens of
crimea. what are the chances of that? i think they re low right now. the equipment is pouring in from the west and helping the ukraine on the defense. and we have seen, for example, de dnipro, artillery battles come here, we think artillery, that equipment is coming on the river. we re using land, the river, rail, in order to get that equipment there. they re doing a lot of smart things, but with the ukraine military doesn t have is men. doesn t have soldiers. it would need 50 to 100,000 soldiers to go back on the offense, given the amount of equipment that russia has, given the amount of men, battalion tactical groups they have in the reegen. what is your sense of how they re managing that and the force that they do have knowing that this could continue for some time? well, i think they are going with what is called the act of defense. they re trying to put in certain places, they know they re fighting smaller russian formations in certain areas and they pick and choose those ar
