Six-year-old girl needs N15m for heart surgery

A six-year-old girl, Anuoluwapo Moses, has appealed to members of the public to assist her with funds that will enable her to go for surgery.
Anuoluwapo who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease on December 11, 2019, would need N15m to travel abroad for the procedure.
A letter from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, revealed that Anuoluwapo had been a patient of the paediatric cardiology unit.
The letter with the title, ‘To Whom It May Concern,’ was dated February 10, 2020, and was signed by a consultant paediatrician, O.J Sokunbi.
The letter partly reads, “Clinical evaluation indicated that Anuoluwapo has symptomatic congenital heart disease which was confirmed by echocardiography to be Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia ad hypoplastic pulmonary arteries.

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency on Thursday sealed a supermarket in the Ogba area of the state.
The general manager of the agency, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, in a statement said the supermarket, named, ‘Home Affairs Supermarket’ was located on 21 Ijaiye Road, Ogba, and was sealed for displaying expired chocolates and frozen foods on its shelves to be sold to consumers.
He noted that despite several public enlightenment campaigns and warnings given by LASCOPA, store managers still sell expired and hazardous products that are dangerous to human health.
The general manager said he discovered the expired items on the supermarket shelves on February 23.
FG committed to availability of COVID-19 vaccine, says Ehanire

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to the availability of vaccine in Nigeria
Ehanire, on the sidelines of his visit to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, has expressed optimism that the country would receive the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines before the end of February.
He, however, noted that the Federal government had ordered the establishment of full medical oxygen plant in each state of the federation as part of the efforts to ensure oxygen sufficiency not only for COVID-19 but other ailments.
COVID-19 variant: Experts seek mass testing to prevent spread

Virologists and other medical experts on Tuesday urged federal and state governments to ensure mass testing to prevent the spread of a new variant of COVID-19 in communities.
The experts, including a prominent virologist, Prof Oyewale Tomori; a lecturer at the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Dr Oladipo Kolawole; a former first Vice President, National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria, Julian Ojebo, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in the Federal Capital Territory, , Dr Enema Amodu, also urged Nigerians to strictly observe COVID-19 protocols.

The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, has urged the federal and state governments to do all within their power to retain the services of young doctors in the country.
Sanusi said this during the induction of 63 doctors into the medical profession at the Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
He said, “Nigerian doctors are highly sought after all over the world. While we are trying to expand here in Nigeria, in the United Kingdom, they are trying to shrink because there is plenty for them and that is why they do come to our country to poach from the few doctors we have.
