Chelsea overcame a few scares to eliminate Atletico Madrid from the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16.
As in the 1st leg, there was more penalty dramas but a 1-1 result gave Emma Hayes’ side a 3-1 aggregate victory.
There were few threats on either goal in the first half but Ann-Katrin Berger needed a second attempt to smother Toni Duggan’s 20-yard volley, while Hedvig Lindahl’s outstretched boot prevented a cross going in off one of her own defenders.
Maren Mjelde should have made more when bursting through the defence on a counter-attack, while an earlier collision with Millie Bright offered the home side a chance, only for Dayna Catsellanos to clear the crossbar.
