things, admitting the law is about kicking democrats in the butt but the bigger issue is that so many people in north carolina don t have ids early voting, same day registration, allowing vigilante poll watchers, public funding, judicial elections, all these bad provisions in the bill. lets put up a little of that, sunday voting, no more straight ticket in north carolina, requires voters to show government issued voter id. as you said eliminating same day voter registration. it s interesting how blatant the laws are targeting exactly what kind of voters. now a republican official saying, yup, i ve been called a bigot. it s all crazy. it s the substance that s the problem. they are not hiding the ball. obviously this happened. demographic changes are putting states like north carolina and texas considered a democratic target down the road. it s one of these things we re talking about, sort of a last
implementation of its voert id law, leading texans are accusing holder of living in the past. this is deeply depressing to see the chief law enforcement officer in the country use partisan politics and that s all it is to drive a wedge between americans based on race and ethnicity. it s really sad because it has come a long way. reporter: a photo id is required to enter many government buildings, planes, buy alcohol, cigarettes and more. some say you cannot function in today s society without id. lack, if you want to apply for welfare, food stamps, aiage many, many things you have to use it for. and just about everyone has an id. reporter: this month, north carolina passed a tougher law that requires voter id, reduces the early voting period and ends same day registration. they say this will alienate

republican party national leadership saying, hey, we ve got to change. we ve got to stop doing these things. yet the message hasn t trickled down yet to folks at the local level who are still trying to employ the same tricks and games to prevent people from voting. absolutely. julian, let me play you a clip of one of the men north carolina legislators have invited to testify on voter id laws. he s georgia s secretary of state, and he favors these law. take a listen to what he says. this whole issue, i think, with dealing about, with the federal government and universal registration and same day registration and all these different buzz words really gets down to the individual freedoms of people in our state and americans in general. is that not right, julian? same day registration undermines individual freedoms. he s right. yeah. i was very actually involved in the law. he s about as informed on the constitutional issues as our friends from the nra are on second amendment issue
welcome back to the ed show. with the election barely over, scott walker of wisconsin was making it clear he will take another crack at voter suppression. he s at the reagan library throwing out a little red meat. states that have same day registration have problems because they have wonderful volunteers who work 13-hour days. they just it s difficult for them to handle the volume of folks who come at the last minute. it would be better if registration was done in advance of election day. it would be easier. it s about voter integrity, but it s really about turnout. he wants to change the system because late turnout favors democrats. 87% on election day. wisconsin same day registration law goes back to 1976. it s a proud tradition of the state. it helps college students,
