A New York judge on Wednesday rejected a last-minute challenge to the state’s new Assembly maps, allowing them to remain in place for this year’s primary elections, after he struck down the congressional maps earlier this spring.

GUWAHATI: Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, a day ahead of the counting of votes, urged all leaders and members of political parties to adhere to the Election Commission guidelines regarding ban on celebrations and victory march on Sunday.
As Assam grapples a second wave of the pandemic with over 3,000 new cases being added every day, the state government has banned victory rallies across the state on Sunday, during the whole day on Sunday, when results of the assembly elections will be declared.
The state government has released two separate notifications in this regard. The night curfew across the state remains in place.

GUWAHATI: Ahead of the Assam Assembly Election 2021 results, Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta held a meeting with all the SSPs and SDPOs to discuss arrangements for conducting a safe and peaceful counting in the backdrop of COVID-19 infection.
Further, the DGP has requested the political leaders and members to adhere to the Election Commission of India s (ECI) guidelines during and after counting votes for assembly elections on May 2.
