do so for their oversight and accountability function. but also one of the questions i have is, why, if this was another indication of somebody close in the trump orbit or the administration or a personal attorney or otherwise, trying to influence or impede the investigation, and flynn himself has said that it may have had some influence on his willingness to continue to cooperate, knowing how important it was, then it makes that needle go again in the direction of why was this not found to be obstructive conduct by the attorney general? we do know, david, about a quote from the mueller report, part of a voicemail message that was left from one of the president s personal attorneys to flynn s attorney. on the day flynn withdrew from the joint defense agreement and the president s lawyers had been told flynn could no longer talk to the white house or the president. let me read the quote to you and get your response. it says, it wouldn t surprise me if you ve gone on to make a deal wi

fbi didn t think flynn was being intentionally deceptive, it does say he should know better than to lie to the fbi, and that that is a crime, and that he shouldn t have to be warned about it. what stuck out to me, jake, is that the documents also say flynn told then deputy director andy mccabe over the phone just before the fbi interview that mccabe probably knew what he said in the conversation with kislyak, so it s unclear why flynn would then proceed to make false statements in his fbi interview if he thought they knew the truth and what he actually said. yeah. very bizarre. so much bizarre about this lie from flynn. and familipamela, stunning deta about the interactions involved, including an appearance by president trump. that s right. the filings provide colorful details, jake, from the day flynn was interviewed by the fbi in his office. the white house didn t seem to take notice that the fbi was there to interview him, and at

later that day flynn talked to the ambassador and discussed the u.s. sanctions on russia. then on january 14th of 2017 flynn lied to vice president pence, saying he did not talk about sanctions on that call. pence went on to vouch for flynn, saying publicly the next day that sanctions were not discussed in flynn s conversation with the russian ambassador. then on the 24th of january flynn went further and lied to the fbi saying he did not talk about sanctions with the ambassador. days later acting attorney general sally yates warned white house counsel don mcgahn that flynn had misled the vice president and others. well, now as foreign policy magazine reports, yates s concerns led mcgahn to research the logan act and conclude it was likely that flynn may have violated the law according to two sources familiar with the matter. while meeting with mcgahn he also asked her how he had performed in his interview. however, she declined to tell mcgahn whether flynn had told the truth.
