McKee to join Forsyth County as assistant county manager

McKee to join Forsyth County as assistant county manager David McKee will join the Forsyth County government on Monday, April 12, as the assistant county manager. McKee will oversee operations of the county’s engineering, recycling and solid waste, fleet services, public transportation and public facilities departments. He will also serve as the executive manager for all transportation-related activities and responsibilities and will be the county’s key contact with the Georgia Department of Transportation. David McKee, Forsyth County assistant manager McKee brings 15 years of county administration experience. He joined Dawson County in 2006, working in environmental compliance, engineering, GIS and planning. Since 2015, he served as Dawson County’s Public Works director and SPLOST Administrator.

How officials plan to handle the shortage of paramedics in Dawson County Local officials say that over the last six weeks, three experienced paramedics with the Dawson County Fire Department have left their jobs to take higher-paying positions with departments in surrounding counties.  And while losing three employees might not be a problem in some areas of government, Dawson County Fire Chief Danny Thompson says that the issue of recruitment and retention for small rural counties is a “vicious cycle” that has lasting effects on the county’s budget and on public safety.  Speaking to the Dawson County News following a Board of Commissioners meeting last week, Thompson said the problem facing his department is one that is being played out all across the country, as departments face a shortage of trained paramedics and EMTs while competing with large wealthy counties and private services for applicants. 

Kim White announced as principal of Dawson County Middle School

Kim White announced as principal of Dawson County Middle School Kim White Gwinnett County native and former Dawson County Assistant Principal Kim White has been named as the new principal of Dawson County Middle School, school officials announced on Wednesday.  White’s naming to the position was made official on Tuesday night at the Dawson County Board of Education’s monthly meeting. She will replace the current principal, Randi Sagona, who is set to retire at the end of the school year.  According to a school system press release, White is completing her 17th year in public education and has spent the last six years as assistant principal of Dawson County Middle School.
