Mineral County COVID death toll rises to 59

KEYSER - While dealing with an outbreak of their own, the Mineral County Health Department has confirmed the county’s death toll due to COVID-related illness has reached 59.
The health department announced over the weekend that two of its own employees had tested positive for the coronavirus, and the health department would therefore be closed this week.
Monday, they announced a third employee had tested positive, therefore constituting an outbreak at the facility.
Most employees have been working from home, and the situation will be re-evaluated to determine if they are able to reopen on Dec. 28.

KEYSER - The Mineral County Health Department has confirmed the 53rd and 54th deaths due to COVID-related illness.
The 53rd victim was a resident of the Piney Valley Nursing Home, and the 54th was a 46-year-old male who had previously been hospitalized.
“The Mineral County Health Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends,” administrator A.Jay Root said.
This latest loss brings the numbers at Piney Valley to 29 resident deaths, 97 positive residents, and 73 positive employees since the outbreak. Of those numbers, 50 residents and 61 employees have recovered from the virus since the start of the outbreak.

Mineral County passes 50 COVID-related deaths

KEYSER - Mineral County has reported its 52nd death due to COVID-19.
Mineral County Health Department administrator A.Jay Root confirmed Monday that an additional five Mineral County residents had succumbed to the virus.
The 48th, 49th and 50th victims were all residents of Piney Valley Nursing Home.
“This brings the total to 28 resident deaths, 97 residents and 71 employees testing positive, with 50 of the residents and 59 of the employees that have recovered since the start of the outbreak,” Root said.
The county’s 51st death was a 78-year-old male who had previously been hospitalized, and the 52nd death was a 67-year-old female who had also been hospitalized.
