Ikuta is said to have called 911 and told dispatchers that she found her husband collapsed on the floor, face down, and struggling to breathe when she returned from walking her dog. According to documents obtained by the Review-Journal, Ikuta told authorities that it appeared Ng had been shot. She later told detectives that her husband may have accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun, claiming she had found a gun near his body and locked it in a closet. Her version of events, however, did not line up with the evidence gathered by detectives. Below the body of (Ng) there was no large pooling of blood that was expected had (Ng) been found face down, as Ikuta stated she had found him, detectives wrote, per the newspaper.
