Goodman Theatre presenting Sones De Mexico s Zulema in city parks

Goodman Theatre Goodman Theatre is once again bringing theater to the parks this summer. The company on Thursday announced it will present Sones de Mexico Ensemble’s “Zulema,” in a free, three-week engagement (Aug. 5-21) spanning 10 parks across the city. Written by Dolores Diaz and co-directed by Goodman’s resident artistic associate Henry Godinez and Aguijon Theater co-artistic director Marcela Munoz, with music direction by Sones de Mexico founder Victor Pichardo, the one-hour, family-friendly concert production features regional dance and and music as it recounts the journey of the young Zulema, from her Chiapas, Mexico, home, to Chicago. “Music has the power to build bridges between cultures and generations. As we spotlight this important artform in our Year of Chicago Music, ‘Zulema’ and the other extraordinary artworks we have in store will help us build stronger relations with one another,” said Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot via statement.
