High wind warnings lifted for northern Wasatch Front Wednesday

KSL TV SALT LAKE CITY High winds blew into northern Utah Wednesday morning, prompting a ban on high-profile vehicles in parts of Davis County. Traction laws were in effect for Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood and Parleys canyons earlier Wednesday but have been lifted as of 3 p.m. Traction devices were also in effect for state Route 224 over Empire Pass in Summit County but have now been lifted. Logan Canyon in Box Elder and Cache counties was closed due to the severe weather, but reopened shortly before 3 p.m., according to emergency officials. A high wind warning remains in effect for the northern Wasatch Front until 9 a.m. KSL Meteorologist Grant Weyman reported wind gusts of 84 mph at the mouth of Weber Canyon, 64 mph in Farmington, 52 mph on the Bountiful Bench, and 57 mph in Ogden.

A winter storm continues to drop snow on Salt Lake, Utah and Davis Counties on Wednesday morning, closing or delaying some schools, postponing some COVID-19 vaccinations and snarling traffic. The Utah Department of Transportation is asking to stay off the roads until 10 a.m., if at all possible, as the storm’s intensity recedes. The Utah Highway Patrol reported more than three dozen accidents before 8 a.m.
