CHARLOTTE Members of the Charlotte community are remembering two lives lost to gun violence nearly 8 years ago. Dozens gathered in Northeast Charlotte to honor the lives of Inna Gonzalez and Davion Funderburk. Police say in August of 2013, Levi Johnson opened fire on a car with 4 passengers along Regan Drive killing Gonzalez and Funderburk.
Sunday night, the Million Youth March of Charlotte and Salisbury hosted a special balloon release ceremony to honor the victims. The mother of one of the victims says the community needs to come together and help fight crime.
“This is all about reaching out to the youth, and helping us get these guns off the streets and get the crime down in Charlotte. Crime has never been this bad,” says Sonia Funderburk.
