GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – Ever since Glynn County Police Chief Jay Wiggins announced he was resigning last month, the search has been on for the county’s next top cop.
That search now includes input right from the Community First Planning Commission. The commission is a group made up of local pastors, business owners, and stakeholders within Glynn County.
Pastor Darren West is the chair for the commission’s legal committee and says with the goal being to improve relations between the police force and the community, this is an important step.

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Glynn County leaders and a local community organization are coming together to improve the relationship between the Glynn County Police Department and the Black community.
According to county commissioners, the Community First Planning Commission (CFPC) will now be included in the vetting process for a new Glynn County police chief.
Now former Police Chief Jay Wiggins announced his retirement on January 7.

The Glynn County Commission met today in executive session and emerged from the session naming former Glynn County Police Chief Carl Alexander to the newly-created position of Special Advisor to the Board of Commissioners on Matters Pertaining to the Glynn County Police Department, or Special Advisor for short. According to a source familiar with the situation, Alexander’s role will be to provide guidance to the new chief of police, who has yet to be named. Alexander was sworn in in Glynn Superior Court immediately after the meeting ended.The former chief was hired on a six month contract. The motion was advanced by Commissioner Allen Booker and was passed unanimously. A request to the county regarding the salary for that position has not yet been answered.
