Highlights from BYU colleges: BYU performing arts begins a free week of performances, professor discovers new effects of epilepsy

The Daily Universe College of Fine Arts and Communications The World Tour will feature performances from the Ballroom Dance Company, Living Legends, Vocal Point, Young Ambassadors, and the International Folk Dance Ensemble. (BYU Photo) BYU performing arts is holding free virtual performances, workshops and devotionals for a week. The week began Apr. 28th and ends May 4th. The livestreams will feature BYU Ballroom Dance Company, Living Legends, Vocal Point, Young Ambassadors and the International Folk Dance Ensemble. There will also be devotionals and testimonies given by some of the dancers as well as workshops on social media. The workshops will teach viewers cultural songs and dances.

Three New Deans Announced at BYU

April 22, 2021 Brigham Young University Academic Vice President C. Shane Reese announced the appointment of three new deans today, including Richard D. Osguthorpe at the David O. McKay School of Education, Laura Padilla-Walker at the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences and Adam T. Woolley as the dean of Graduate Studies. David O. Highlights from BYU colleges: Awards received for research posters, business model competition and school development

The Daily Universe College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences Awards were announced for top research posters from disciplines in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences on April 8. (Addie Blacker) In the undergraduate category, first place awards went to Abigail Rivera in anthropology, Carver Coleman in economics, Casey McClellan Geslison in geography and Jinhee Nelson in history. Neuroscience students Shawna Ibarra, James Bates, Summer Arthur, Gavin Jones, Tanner McVey and Dallin Otteson won first place for their project on reducing anxiety in alcohol withdrawal. Other award recipients included Kelsey Eyre, Kesley Powdell and Heather Walker for political science, Alex Merce and Maryn Rolfson for psychology, Logan J. Marks and Heather H. Kelley in the School of Family Life and Emley Holcombe in sociology.

(Aaron Hawkins) Brigham Young University was recognized by the National Science Foundation for preparing more future Ph.D. students in foreign languages and business management than any other American college. Data shared by the foundation also shows that BYU graduates have greater success earning doctorates in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, psychology, education research and other fields of study. Over the past 10 years, 241 BYU alumni completed a Ph.D. in business management and administration. This was 250% more than their closest competitor, the University of Pennsylvania, whose alumni produced 95 Ph.D.s in the same time period. As for foreign languages, BYU is unusually bilingual.
