The grand jury’s indictment alleges Brave committed one count of theft by deception, two counts of falsifying physical evidence, and five counts of perjury stemming from allegations he had misused public funds and lied about it.
By saying he lived in Dover, N.H., while actually living in Massachusetts, Strafford County’s top law enforcement officer may have made himself ineligible for the office for which he’s on paid administrative leave.
Sheriff Mark A. Brave, who faces theft and perjury charges, earns more than $72,000 per year from Strafford County and recently sold a home. Still, the public will be paying for his defense attorney.
