2 PITTSBURGH Nobody likes the idea of pipes bursting in their own home. Water gushing down the walls from the upstairs bathroom. The ceiling paint curling and turning dark. The floors warping from moisture even days after the water is gone. Imagine those pipes bursting in your home every year. Now, imagine pipes bursting at a larger scale, happening across an entire town. Every single year. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District has seen an increasing number of projects to help small and distressed communities meet their water-related infrastructure challenges. The district approved nine new water infrastructure projects in the last three years, funded under the Water Resource Development Act of 1936, or WRDA Section 219, program which offers cost-sharing aid to towns in Allegheny County and Northern West Virginia.

Rosso hopes to hold the event and others in neighboring communities as her senior honors project. FOLLANSBEE At Monday’s Follansbee Council meeting, city officials were asked about filling the city manager’s position, addressing vacant buildings and prohibiting pet owners from keeping their dogs out in the cold. Mayor David Velegol Jr. said he will ask council to consider naming Jack McIntosh city manager and dispense with advertising for applicants.

Incumbent David Velegol Jr. of 400 Heather Moor Drive, will face challenger John Schwertfeger of 601 Gilbert Ave. Schwertfeger once served as the city’s police chief. City Clerk David Kurcina also announced others who have declared their candidacy for the following council seats: ¯ 1st Ward: Incumbent Paul Boniey of 214 Main St. and challenger challenger Tammy Johnson of Main Street. ¯ 3rd Ward: Challengers Nicholas Cekinovich of 541 Gilbert Ave. and incumbent Kathy Santoro of 605 Mahan Ave.
