A 19-year-old Cedar Rapids man was sentenced to 25 years for a vehicular homicide and a shooting incident in 2022. He faced up to 50 years but received a plea deal because he was 18 at the time.
A Cedar Rapids man was convicted of a 2022 vehicular homicide that resulted in the death of a 77-year-old Cedar Rapids woman and seriously injuring a 73-year-old Marion woman. He also pleaded in a shooting case and faces up to 25 years for both cases.
Joanne Swenka was seriously injured in a crash that killed her passenger, Judy Hoover. After several surgeries, Swenka has returned home and is continuing to heal.
