In 1987 the Metropolitan Blues All Stars were headliners for an Appalachian cultural gala in Chicago. It was a celebration of Appalshop that featured Roadside Theater, Fiddle King of the South Marion Sumner, renowned banjo player Lee Sexton, and screenings of Appalshop films. Two of them, Rodney Hatfield and Mike Stamper, grew up in different East Kentucky coal towns and both came to the blues listening to the ubiquitous WLAC Nashville. A GARDA who faced jail before he was cleared of assaulting and holding a Dublin Bus driver against his will said last night: “I’ve been in a nightmare for two years.”
Relieved Noel Gibbons who has also appeared as a presenter on RTE’s Crimecall made the claim after he walked free from Dublin District Court last Friday.

The charges were dismissed against the garda
The garda had been charged by the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commissioner with section two assault, false imprisonment and providing false information.

A judge has criticised the Garda Ombudsman Commission for prosecuting a garda who was cleared in court of any wrongdoing.
Garda Noel Gibbons was charged with assault, false imprisonment and giving misleading information to GSOC in connection with the arrest of a Dublin Bus driver two and a half years ago.
The Garda arrested David Stamper in Dublin city centre on 15 September 2018 after the bus driver began flashing at him for driving in a bus lane and refused to give the garda his name or details when stopped.
Garda Gibbons, who is based at Pearse Street Garda Station, in Dublin and has also appeared as a presenter on RTÉ s Crimecall programme, had been driving his car and making a turn into the Garda station at the time.
