Consider the future – Echonetdaily

Many researchers and activists have contributed remarkable research to The Echo since the debate surrounding the health of the Belongil Estuary commenced. This effort creates the conditions for future planning and the integrity of ecological systems in the Byron Shire. The research of David Pont, reminding us of the dangers of ‘institutional forgetting’, and the recent research of Dailan Pugh, Duncan Dey and others extends our view to address research on climate change and the fate of our changing water systems in the Shire. Byron Shire Council needs to create the conditions whereby this research can be incorporated into a Working Draft strategy with the input of local First Nations people. Council needs to address the fate of the Belongil, water dispersement, and look towards future healing and climate change issues.
