A BUSINESS which struggled with several unfortunate setbacks to reopening will return to the high street this weekend – in a brand-new location. Independent clothing and gift shop Willow & Fox, originally located in Quest Place, will be coming back at its new location in 30 High Street, Maldon on Saturday (May 15). The location is next to Maldon Coffee at the entrance to Edwards Walk. Owner Allison Gray said: “Following two national lockdowns and a flood in my shop from the flat above just two weeks before I was due to reopen along with other high street businesses on April 12, I am finally extremely excited to announce we are back open.

A NEW mayor and deputy mayor of Maldon have been elected. Maldon town councillors elected councillor David Ogg as mayor, and councillor Andrew Lay as deputy mayor for the 2021-22 period. Mr Ogg has been in business in Maldon for 18 years and first joined the council in 2015. He also previously served as deputy mayor in 2020-21. Mr Lay has been a councillor since 2019 and is the chairman of the finance and general purposes committee. Mr Ogg said: “The role of town mayor in Maldon goes back to 1874 and it is indeed an honour for me to be a part of that great heritage.

AN awards evening praising the great work of members of Maldon town’s community took place virtually this year. Maldon Town Council’s Pride of Maldon awards, which was hosted by master of ceremonies Mark Heard, invited nominees from all over the town to recognise the inspiring work they have done. Awards were given out by the panel, which included town mayor Abdul Hafiz. The prestigious Pride of Maldon award, presented by the mayor, was given to Suzanne Finch, parks and countryside community officer for Maldon District Council. A town council spokesman said: “Suzanne has assisted with the design and maintenance of many of the open spaces in Maldon and this includes leading volunteer and payback groups in caring for our cemeteries and open spaces.
