Nkana sent a statement about their survival hopes on Saturday following a 2-1 home win over Prison Leopards at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
The victory handed third from bottom Nkana its second successive league victory from three home games in May that boosted their survival hopes with six games left to avoid demotion.
Zimbabwe defender Gilroy Chimwemwe scored and provided an assist on the day as Nkana also avenged their 2-0 first leg away loss to Prison on December 30.
Chimwemwe put Nkana ahead with a rather speculative shot from range in the 28th minute that Prison goalkeeper Charles Kalumba let in by his very own high standards.
At Garden Park in Kitwe, leaders Zanaco finished 0-0 against a plucky Kitwe United.
Bottom of the table and winless United took the game to Zanaco who had goalkeeper Mangani Banda to thank for a couple of critical saves.
At Presidents Stadium ,second placed Prison Leopards needed a last minute equalizer from David Obashi in their Kabwe derby against visitors Kabwe Warriors after Ali Sadiki had put the visitors ahead.
There was also a draw result in the Ndola derby where hosts Indeni and third placed Forest Rangers finished 2-2.
Zanaco, Prison and Forest all have 25 points.
But joining them on 25 points are Zesco United who won 2-0 at home in Ndola against Lusaka Dynamos.
Promoted Prison Leopards on Wednesday end 2020 as the surprise leaders of the 2020/2021 FAZ Super Division season following a stunning home win over defending champions Nkana.
Prison humbled the champions 2-0 at Presidents Stadium in Kabwe to take a one point lead into 2021 from eleven games played.
Tshite Mweshi gave Prison a 1-0 halftime lead when dribbled his way passed Nkana goalkeeper Tanunurwa Shumba in the 15th minute.
David Obashi added the final goal in the 81st minute to end Nkana’s promising three-match unbeaten run that included two league wins and a 1-1 home draw in the CAF Champions League against Petro Atletico of Angola in a pre-group stage, first leg match on December 23 in Kitwe.
