Recommended is not part of his sentence and that is because the judge modified and reduced that manslaughter charge to criminally negligent homicide. The judge says there is no evidence that the defendant was aware of akai gurleys presence in that darkened stairwell that night when he fired off that shot that killed the unarmed man. D. A. Thompson had recommended no jail time and six months house arrest along with five years probation. The judge called that an appropriate recommendation and given liangs background and how remorseful he is he did not find it necessary to incarcerate him, saying it would be productive for him to do Additional Community service.
