the site of gabby giffords community meeting, he s basically laid all the groundwork for this and, you know, really had planned it out very, you know, meticulously. does the word methodical, david, does that come to mind? is that an appropriate way to describe him? absolutely. i mean this is the thing that could come up at a potential trial for him. because everything we ve heard of him before this is that he can t really focus in on a task. here, as we said, the police show that shehe s had a lot of different things to do that night and he certainly carries them out. let me ask adam to put that timeline back up again. what s interesting is the part with his father. you ll see it on the next page there, adam, where he argues with his father. some sort of a confrontation there. just an hour, less than, before the shooting outside of the safeway. what do we know about that? what we know is that he had bought a black diaper bag that looked like a backpack.
when he gets home that morning, his father questions him about it and they have words. then jared loughner flees with the bag. his father told police that he gave chase, but that he lost track of his son. it appears that he possibly ran into the brush behind the house. the police found that bag a couple days ago in the brush, and, you know, had ammunition in it, had receipts. that s how they were able to trace a lot of his movements. interesting. let s get to this video posted by the los angeles times. it s been reportedly taken by loughner outside his former community college there. let s take a look at part of this. this is pima community college, one of the biggest scams in america. the students are so illiterate that it affects their daily lives. what s significant about this video in your mind, david? well, i think we re finally, first time hearing his voice, and you know, we ve read a lot
investigators are painting a picture of a very busy and bizarre jared loughner in the hours before the tucson shooting a week ago. a timeline shows the suspect posed for photos in a g-string with his gun, checked into a motel, bought ammunition and posted good-bye messages on myspace. joining me live now from tucson, arizona, washington post reporter david nakamuro. good morning. thank you. let s get to the details that you ve learned from the timeline of events that officials have released. what s the most startling thing to you or bizarre? well, i think what we see here is a young man who, even though he was painted by friends as undisciplined, unfocused, on the morning of these killings he seemed very busy, very focused. he pulled an all-nighter and had run errands, buying ammunition, checking into the hotel and even getting pulled over by police for running a red light. he seemed very much on a mission to do this. and, by the time he pulls up at
these shootings as the police allege, then all of a sudden these pictures turn up later. just another slap in the face to everybody who was affected by this. and it could be well that he expected that possibly he would be even hurt himself in this, but this would be his final message. it obviously is just a fairly disgraceful message that he s sending. yeah. disgraceful indeed. the washington post david nakamura. thank you so much, david. david gregory will talk to new york senator kirsten gillibrand on meet the press. she visited congresswoman giffords all this past week in the hospital. check your local listings. one marine was killed on friday when an amphibious assault vehicle sank near oceanside, california. it took place during a routine training exercise. the victim was pulled from the submerged vehicle about two hours after the incident. slegters are trying to figure out what caused that vehicle to sink. all the marines are from nearby
