The Moviehouse in Millerton Slated to Reopen by June Under New Owners

click to enlarge Built originally as a Grange Hall in 1903, the building that houses the Moviehouse in Millerton has been a community hub from the start. In time, it was converted into a cinema with a ballroom upstairs. The only movie theater in the area, the Moviehouse showed a wide range of films, 365 days a year since its birth in 1978 until COVID shut it down last March. But now, the small theater is slated to reopen by mid-June, with new proprietors David Maltby and Chelsea Altman at the helm. “When I made the decision to find new leadership for The Moviehouse, I looked for people who shared our passion and enthusiasm for the cinema, art, and community,” says previous owner Carol Sadlon, who ran the Moviehouse for 43 years with her late husband Robert. She found what she was looking for in Altman and Maltby, an energized young New York couple with ties to the Millerton area.

How Britain s Lancaster Bomber Destroyed German Dams (Using Bouncing Bombs) The idea was to blow up dams or strike them with bombs to create breaches that would cause catastrophic flooding. Here s What You Need to Know: The British RAF modified the Avro Lancaster bomber to deliver a bouncing bomb. In the summer of 2018 a British father and son who were catching crabs along Reculver Beach in Kent stumbled upon a historical item of intense value. What they found was the concrete core from a World War II cylindrical test bomb. Originally encased in steel plating that had long since rusted away, the test bomb was used to hone the skills of the bomber crews who carried out the 1943 mission known as Operation Chastise.
