It should not be surprising when an eight-time Russian champion is leading a tournament. Especially when three fourths of the field aren't even 30 years old. And yet, GM Peter Svidler's standing atop the leaderboard of the 28th annual TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament still counts as something of an upset.

Dommaraju Gukesh kicked off the TePe Sigeman & Co tournament with back-to-back wins, but is now sharing second place with Nils Grandelius a half point behind co-leaders Peter Svidler and Abhimanyu Mishra (pictured). The most exciting world championship match in recent history has come to an end and has produced the first Chinese World Chess Champion in Ding Liren. Ding is the 17th World Chess Champion and the new figurehead of world chess. We are sure to hear many more background stories about the course of the match soon.
