For those of you who dont know, elaine is a senior fellow in the government studies fellowship at brookings and founding director of public management. Shes also on faculty of the Harvard Kennedy school. In this new book, elaine argues at the residence today spend too much time talking and not enough time governing like some people we might know. Several days for each party to showcase their best to the nation, to dress up in niceties, to firmly dispense with whatever the primary campaigns have wrought and focus on the election at hand. But, the Political Convention has not always played such a congenial role in president ial politics. Over the next hour, well remember some of the most influential conventions to shape modern politics. Well recall the raucous behavior that infiltrated chicago in 1912. The 1964 convention that had republicans questioning the direction of their party. Well also recall those moments that became the retrospective sign posts for a nation in the midst of change.
