Opinion: $15 minimum wage would help poor people
David Hamrick
In response to Michael McMahan’s Feb. 14 article titled “$15 minimum wage would slow economy” I say hogwash.
Mr. McMahan seems like an affable fellow, but he is obviously a wealthy affable fellow. I don’t begrudge that - I say good for him. This is America, and he obviously has done well.
He is white, intelligent, and nice looking, but instead of regaling us with his academic credentials ad nauseum, he should admit he was born on third base and not boast about hitting home runs.
Addressing the $15 per hour minimum wage: Mr. McMahan says he is a numbers guy, but then gives us only one carefully chosen statistic to bolster his case, and it’s this; “The…Congressional Budget office predicts that, though 700,000 workers would be pushed above the poverty line by raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, 1.4 million workers will lose their jobs.”
