The Polar Bear Plunge is virtual this year, but it s not just the plunge athletes at home are creating and hosting many of their own social sessions to stay connected. The sessions are made up of virtual air-high-fives and Zoom class jumping jack exercises. Athletes and plungers are getting their feet wet with all sorts of activities through Virtual MOVEment. Special Olympics Maryland athletes like David Godoy, of Montgomery County, are thriving in those modified ways, taking charge and leading their own sessions, like exercise, and other programs, like this WWE social club and what s called quarantine cuisine. I m being able to do it in a modified way, Godoy said. We re still able to get engaged with other athletes. We re able to get engaged with the staff and personnel. We re able to get engaged with the volunteers. The inclusive experiences are designed for all 8,700 athletes.
