The Christchurch Adventure Park is fighting to overturn a court ruling that it must pay $12 million in damages to owners of homes burned in the Port Hills fires. In March, the High Court ruled that the park – a mountainbike, hiking and zipline operation now majority owned by the Christchurch City Council – had unwittingly helped spread the 2017 wildfires with its chairlift. The fires burned 1600 hectares of land, including forest in the 365ha adventure park, and destroyed nine homes and damaged five others.
