Reddy was sworn in as Governor-General in September 2016, for a five-year term. She was the third woman to hold the position. A former corporate lawyer, she had an extensive career in governance and consulting roles in both the private and public sectors, and charitable trusts for the arts. Reddy has travelled to countries including Japan, Korea, Israel, and Malaysia for formal state visits during her time as Governor-General, and in 2018 she welcomed both former US President Barack Obama and Prince Harry and Megan, Duchess of Sussex, to New Zealand.

A long-time fan of Graham’s work, Dame Patsy said she was blown away by the exhibition. “It was extremely moving and so stunning,” she said, “I’ve seen a lot of his work but never on this scale.”
