Southington residents planning townâs first gay pride week this spring

SOUTHINGTON â Local members of the gay, lesbian and bisexual community are working to plan a pride week this spring that will include raising a rainbow flag in front of Town Hall, painting a rainbow crosswalk on Apple Alley and youth events at Camp Sloper.
Itâs the first such event in town planned for late May and early June.
âItâs truly revolutionary,â said David Falvo, a Republican Board of Education member and member of the gay community. Heâs also on the pride committee thatâs planning events.

SOUTHINGTON â The tone of School Superintendent Tim Connellanâs sharp rejection of a teachersâ union request for remote learning through the holidays prompted concerns from some Board of Education members this week.
Daniel Hart, a Southington High School teacher and teachersâ union president, requested the district move to remote-only learning through mid-January. Rising coronavirus cases, Hart said in an email from late last month, increase risk for teachers.
