A committee of North Bay council is recommending the adoption of a major proposal from staff to bring the operations of the Merrick Landfill in-house.
The proposal, which would have the city take over the landfill operations beginning Jan. 1, 2022, received the support of a majority of council’s infrastructure and operations committee Tuesday evening.

It will now head back to council for final approval.
Details in the business plan were outlined by senior environment and facilities engineer Karin Pratte, who was part of a review committee that involved other senior staff, including chief administrative officer David Euler, director of public works Domenic Schiavone, chief financial officer Margaret Karpenko and chief human resources and information officer Lea Janisse.
