âI would describe myself as a promiscuous hugger â itâs how I feel connected to people â and Iâm talking fairly strong, well-intentioned hugs,â says Abhi. A business development manager, he and Chloe are working at home, and home schooling Ella. âI try to get up from my laptop and stretch my legs every hour or so. I might find one of them to cuddle as part of that. Some people do coffee or cigarettes for a break, I crave human touch.â
Growing up in Dubai, in an Indian family, with cousins, uncles and aunts nearby, physical affection was part of Abhiâs daily life. He worries we wonât go back to that, outside immediate family. âIn the wider world, I do wonder if the hugging, the handshakes, the high fives will come back. I imagine weâll all be a bit more reserved with those weâre not close to.â
