The Providence area was below normal for snowfall in December and January but a snowy February put it above average for the season, according to the National Weather Service. A stormy February gave Providence more snow than normal during meteorological winter, but Rhode Island seems to have ducked the wintry punch that walloped much of the Northeast. Providence had 29.6 inches of snow in the three months that comprise meteorological winter December, January and February, which is about 3 inches more than normal, according to Andrew Leconte, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Norton, Massachusetts.
