those sanctions? yeah, david, i think it s important to focus on the energy sanctions and i m hopeful that we can get a package of sanctions, including on nord stream two, but i think the broader picture is this. we need to recognize we re in a new era, it s the era of authoritarian aggression with china and russia they believe they can crush and invade their neighbors, their democratic neighbors and i warned after the afghanistan withdrawal fiasco that these authoritarian countries would be testing us and we re seeing that now in ukraine, and we re seeing that almost daily in the south china sea in taiwan, and i don t think this administration is doing enough to show strength. and i think that s a key issue. nord stream is just one issue, but there s a number of other ones with the signal that the biden administration is showing is weakness and that s not
president putin invades ukraine. and right now we re trying to prevent an invasion. joining me is democratic congressman adam smith, he s chairman of the house armed services committee. good to see him congressman, first of all, what are you hearing about the possibility of a russian invasion? i think we re hearing exactly what you ve heard, which is they re certainly lined up to do it. putin has put himself in a position if he decides to do it, he s ready. we re not hearing that that decision has been made by russian leadership and i think, you know, it s still not exactly clear what putin intends. a lot of people think he s going to do it, no question about it, but at this point it appears that he s not officially decided, but the threat is real. he s set it up so he can do it at a moment s notice so we need to unite to deter him from doing that. david: we are hearing some casualty estimates that are really frightening here, about
