A man accused of being the gunman in what was described as a carefully planned assassination in Dublin has gone on trial accused of murder.
31-year-old Lee Canavan, of no fixed abode, denies killing David ‘Daithi’ Douglas at a shoe shop on Bridgefoot Street in July 2016.
At around 4pm on July 1st 2016, David ‘Daithi’ Douglas was leaning up against a counter in his girlfriend’s shoe shop when a gunman walked in.
He shot him six times. Mr Douglas’ daughter, who was also working there, rushed to his aid, but he didn’t survive.
The prosecuting barrister, Sean Gillane, said the gunman then jumped into the so-called “murder car,” which was waiting for him on a nearby street.
