The Knox County Sheriff's department has rebooted its website to be easier to navigate and with plenty of opportunities to either give or receive information. Sheriff David Clague says the goal was to provide transparency between his office and the public. Clague says they want the community to understand how this office serves the community, residents, and visitors. Right on the site's top banner, there are links to submit a crime tip, find forms to apply to the department, a registry of sex offenders in the area, and more. Visitors can also sign up for alert notifications from the Sheriff's Office via email or text - including sex offender notifications, press releases, and messages from the Sheriff. Sheriff Clague says, "Posting information on the website improves the efficiency of the Sheriff's Office by reducing the number of inquiry calls handled by our office." The site can be accessed at knoxcountysheriffil.com
The state’s Line of Duty Compensation Act addresses the benefits made available to the families of fallen officers, but there can be delays in families receiving that compensation.
