charles ramsey, chief ramsey, i want to play something for you that david brad, he s a republican congressman from virginia told me about his concerns going forward. listen to this. immediately, it brings town halls to mind, too. you got 1,000 folks, people that want to you know, give you their views as constituents, et cetera. we have the security thing now is going to be ramped up to new levels. it takes just one person that s off the rails on a certain day, it s not good. i take it security is going to be ramped up. but not only on capitol hill. but elsewhere when a member of congress, for example, has a town hall back home someplace and people come by the hundreds, presumably there s going to be tighter security. well, oftentimes, if it s not here in washington wherever it s being held, the local police linda stouffer provide a detail there to kind of deal with some of the crowd issues and so forth. i m sure there will be a lot of
approach, though. some are really having a good time with this. virginia republican david brad also faced a typical rally crowd at these town halls who jeered as he took dozens of questions for more than an hour. unlike his colleagues, he enjoyed that back and forth. he said i don t mind the boisterousness, i m having fun. and even lawmakers who are not holding town halls are being targeted by angry voters. these protesters lined up outside of a hotel in bakersfield, california where they were attending a closed-door republican fund-raiser. some people who showed up at town halls wear stickers to prove that they are constituents not political operatives like some republicans are claiming. president trump is not buying it. he tweeted this out writing, quote, the so-called angry crowds at home districts of some
where senator joni ernst faced a hostile event at a event and she took to a side door and pulled the plug after 45 minutes and protesters chased her to her car chanting. shame on you! shame on you! shame on you! republican david brad also faced a rowdy crowd in virginia. the crowd there shouts and jeered, as bratt took dozens of questions. his lasted more than an hour unlike his colleague, bratt seemed to enjoy the back and forth, he said, quote, i don t mind the boisterousness, i m having fun. even lawmakers who aren t holding town halls are being targeted by angry voters. protesters you see here lined up outside of a hotel in
earlier, is this outpouring of citizen action. the marches we saw in washington and new york, all around the country after trump s inauguration, it was just a powerful sign of people wanting to be involved, saying, hey, this is our country too. yeah, there will ab fight in the senate and it will be pretty predictable but more of a bottom-up process for the democratic party. democratic party needs new leadership. there are tired and familiar faces on chiapitol hill and i think that process of change is what the party needs. exactly right, david. that new leadership, i think, has to bubble up out of this, what ihinkou be a movement. it s not, you know, we can t ca it a tea party but is there a movement out there and it s going to come up with new leaders who are going to knock off some of the old leaders the way david brad knocked off eric cantor. i think it will happen faster to
reporter: hey there, kate. yeah, members of the freedom caucus just walked into the meeting. we re now in the capitol building and they walked into paul ryan s ways and means chairman hide away office just off the house floor. david brad, he s famous for knocking off eric kanter in a prime minister last year. i said, what are you looking for in there? he said i want to talk to paul ryan about what he put forward in his demands. he did seem, though, to me, at least to be willing to compromise on a few issues, specifically the idea about the motion to vacate the chair. paul ryan, we had heard moving the threshold from 218 votes to depose a speaker to perhaps 2/3 of the house, they seemed to be receptive to that. what i did say, are you going to hold steady on this idea that in order to make an endorsement, 80% of your caucus has to agree?
