As summer temperatures increase, animal welfare center offers tips to keep pets safe

With the forecast including temperatures in the 90s this upcoming weekend, staff at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center are reminding pet owners of ways to keep their four-legged friends safe in the heat. Those high temperatures can be dangerous for pets when spending time outside. Stacey Teager is the community services director at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan. She said there are some simple steps pet owners can take to prevent.

Bicyclist killed is third in Quad-City area in a month June 3, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) A bicyclist has died after being struck by a speeding motorist in Davenport, Iowa the third fatal accident involving a bicyclist in the Quad-City region in the past month. The Quad-City Times reports that the accident happened Thursday when a red SUV struck the bicyclist at Kimberly Road and Davenport Avenue. Police say the SUV then fled. A 13-year-old boy was fatally struck by a police cruiser in Moline, Illinois, on May 4. The officer is on leave while the investigation continues. Earlier that same day, a 60-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV in rural Rock Island County, Illinois.

Meet Denali - a 16-month-old Belgian Malinois. Denali is from North Iowa K9 and was trained for several jobs including narcotics searches, suspect tracking, article searches, building searches and bite apprehension.  North Iowa K9 trains police service dogs all over the country.  She had her first shift on Sunday, May 2.  Since then she has been deployed twice for patrol duties.  She looks forward to a long and rewarding career with the Sheriff s Office, read the Facebook post.

Blazer, an Australian Sheppard, lives with his family in the Fyre Lake community in Sherrard. On Friday, April 16, 2021, at about 2 p.m., Blazer was out in the driveway. One of his owners, Janson Bender, was inside their house. My son got off the school bus and noticed that our dog Blazer was limping and just didn t quite look right, Bender said. Michael Elsbury, who lives on the same street as Bender, is charged with shooting Blazer with an air rifle, according to Mercer County court records obtained by News 8.
