It can be hard to move forward after a tragedy. There is a kind of triage aspect. Address the actual problem in front of us. Take care of what is happening right now. That is the priority. It has to be. That is what happened with Rustic Ridge. The priority
A Plum street that leads to the borough building, public works facility, Plum EMS and a fire station will be renamed in memory of a late borough manager. Michael Thomas, 57, was among six people who lost their lives Aug. 12 in a house explosion in the borough’s Rustic Ridge
Volunteers are needed for Plum’s sixth annual Community Clean-Up Day, scheduled for April 23. They are asked to report to the public works facility at 2001 Old Mine Road between 8-8:30 a.m. A continental breakfast including coffee and Oakmont Bakery goods will be provided. Participants receive T-shirts, gloves, trash bags
Donna Kane knew she and her husband, Dan, needed help.
The Plum senior couple was still recovering from the July 2019 storms that flooded many parts of Allegheny County.
“My husband has a bad back, and because of that flood almost two years ago my yard was kind of messed up,” said Donna Kane, who is in her 60s.
So when the borough decided to expand its annual Cleanup Day, April 24 in observance of Earth Day, to a whole week of volunteer opportunities leading up to the main event, the Kanes were happy to sign up.
“It lightened the mood,” she said. “It took a lot of weight off of us trying to get the yard cleaned up and looking good. I appreciate the borough wanting to do that.”

Borough Engineer Robert Mitall said roads are evaluated annually, and these are the ones deemed in need of immediate attention compared to other streets.
He said this year’s program covers about the same number of roads with nearly the same amount of funds as in previous years.
Borough public works crews will tend to pre-construction projects such as inlet repairs and storm sewer replacements prior to paving.
